I was asked to show in Tustin, CA.
This is what I selected...the box series as it exists in an
installation. The images in the boxes are a doll head, an odd
slip form and one of my houses.
I posted this image of the boxes in my back yard, this image
is a better shot.
The other piece is a vase, charcoal fired with doll parts,
doll arms as handles. The clay has granite and porcelain
inclusions wedged into the stoneware.

In the spring, my kiln yard has multiple bird nests.
If the bird dies, I create a vessel and fire.
this is the result

This was a mixed media piece
with a collection of forms contained
in plastic sleeves. Pattern and texture

In my work with the box/cube, I assembled parts and
this was the result. The piece to me has a stance/posture
that feels like a kimono....

This is a current thread...forgive the backyard photo.
The left box has a doll head...the right box has
my porcelain slip odd form.
Issues of containment...content...things
within the box become for me a paradigm
of ideas....so you can take that where you want.

Some history...these were made about 20 years ago. The image remains a thread in my work. I think the boxes have become a context for other narrative work. I will post some things from grad school that explains my interest in the narrative. These were charcoal fired, a wonderful process that uses wood the for surface which is subtle and beautiful.

I have a fondness for bamboo, and have made brushes from the more interesting
sections of the plant I have found. Here is a selection of a few of the brushes.

I think I want my blog to be about images, more than text.
I will give a brief description when needed.
Some of the images I am providing are historical pieces
such as the green/oribe handbuilt platter.
I made these several years ago. I have not found the
patience, or the time to make them again.

When I work on the potter's wheel, I make contact with the
ability of the clay to move and dance in my hands.
This mug was from a series, and represents the most
successful of perhaps 30 made that day.

Last Spring I was experimenting with porcelain slip and came up with a series of forms...what I like the most about these are the shadows created on a white wall.

Images of my work.
I make stoneware cups of thin sheets of clay, I fire in a reduction atmosphere to cone 11. The cups sound like tin cans when tapped.....
I like the responsive quality of the clay to texture.

Introduction

Late August 2008.
In the beginning efforts of creating my blog, I will post images of my work to let you know who I am, and what I do.

My first image is one of my back yard with a small portion of my studio.
The spring is what is reflected here, when the plants are happiest.
